Attending School



         Attending Sewing School in the Covid 19 era and beyond.


 By attending classes at the sewing school you agree to the rules and requirements outlined in this page.



  Booking a Class


Sewing classes are £20 per person per two hour session.


All classes must be paid for in full in advance of the class date to ensure your place.


Currently payment options are by PayPal, Bank Transfer or cash.


To allow social distancing guidelines to be followed classes will be held on a one to one or maximum of two students per session basis while required.


This means all sessions will be run as a pick your choice of project.

So if you want an "Introduction to...." class or are already able to sew and want to get in to improving your stitching it is entirely your decision what to do with your class time. You may already have a particular sewing project in mind but if not you might fancy looking for inspiration amongst the Class Ideas pages on the website, some of these projects have been very popular.

It is recommended that you know what you would like to do when you come to class so we can make the most of your time at the sewing school. Do get in touch to discuss what you want to sew and chat about what you will need.


Class sessions will be 11am-1pm, 1.30-3.30pm, 4-6pm any evening sessions will be 6.30-8.30pm.


We endeavour to keep the Calendar up to date with which sessions have been booked however this can change quickly as students get in touch to book time at school, please be aware that a session might have been snapped up! If a time you would have liked has already been booked let us know if you would like to be contacted should they have to cancel as we keep a reserve list just incase.

  Cancellation Policy


We ask that any cancellations be made with a minimum of 24 hours notice.


If we are able to fill your session with a replacement student you may choose to transfer the class fee to another session or receive a refund. The more notice given the greater chance that this can happen. If it is not possible to replace you no transfer or refund can be made.


Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice cannot be transferred or refunded.


If for any reason a class has to be cancelled by Rooftop Atelier Sewing School then a full refund will be made or you can choose to transfer your class to an alternate available date.



  Covid 19 Precautions & Requirements


In the current situation we ask that you please do not take risks for the sake of not missing out on a sewing class. If I have to close the sewing school to isolate it will not only be you who will miss out on classes. With the huge reduction in potential student numbers due to social distancing measures and the likely ongoing closures due to lockdowns the sewing school needs all the support it can get to ensure it can continue. Please think better safe than sorry, even if it means you have to wait a little longer to come to school.


Please do not attend the sewing school if you or anyone in your household/extended household or anyone you have been in prolonged contact with ie work colleagues are displaying Covid 19 like symptoms or have recently tested positive.


Please inform us as soon as posssible should you or anyone in your household /extended household etc display Covid like symptoms if you have attended a class at the sewing school.



  Before Class


Please arrive on time for you allocated class however please do not arrive far too early as you will not be able to wait in the sewing school. Class sessions have been scheduled to allow for the workspace and facilities to be cleaned between students, due to this we have to be strict about starting and finishing times.


It is mandatory that we take current contact details for anyone attending a class,on arrival at the sewing school you will be asked to provide these if we do not already have them. This is to allow for track and trace should it become necessary. We take all reasonable precautions to protect any personal information we hold and will not share with any third party unless legally obliged to do so.

We also have a QR code for the NHS Track and Trace you can scan with the app.


Alongside cleaning between classes hand sanitiser is provided on entry and for use during your time at school. As an additional precaution and because zapping everyone with the thermometer ray gun is quite fun we will take your temperature on arrival at the sewing school.



  During Class


Face masks/ face coverings are required unless you are medically exempt.

Face masks will not be provided however they will be available to purchase should you forget yours. There are more exciting sewing projects but you can of course sew your own masks while at school.


During classes you will be allocated a sewing station and cutting area.

Sewing machines and tools at the sewing school are still available for use however we do ask that where possible you bring your own sewing kit with you. It will however be mandatory that students use their own pins for hygiene reasons. Pins are available to purchase from the haberdashery should you forget your own. Any of the sewing school’s tools used during sessions are sanitised between uses.


Students may use the toilet facilities and there are antibacterial handwash and wipes available. Should you wish to wash your hands we ask that you only use the sink in the bathroom and do not use the sink in the kitchenette.


Teas and coffee will still be available,this will be made for you to minimise users in the kitchenette. You are welcome to bring your own mug/resusable cup if you would prefer to use your own.



 Under 16s


Students under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for them during the class .The companion does not need to book to partake in the class unless they wish to. The accompanying adult must be part of the attending child's regular Covid 19 Bubble.




All workshops are attended at your own risk. It is your responsibility to use all machines, tools and equipment carefully and to follow safety instructions.There is no such thing as a stupid question,if you are unsure of anything please ask again and again and again as many times as you need to. Repeated question asking applies to everything and not just the stuff that keeps you safe we're here to learn afterall.

Rooftop Atelier Sewing School cannot be held accountable for any injury caused as a result of partaking in any of our classes.
